Smile makeover has become synonymous to dentistry and orthodontics as several procedures are used for improving the overall look of a person including teeth whitening, crowns, veneers, white fillings, dental bridges and gum reshaping. These treatment procedures can change the entire shape of a person’s smile, thus bringing huge relationship and psychological benefits. Dentistry and orthodontics procedures are no longer limited to the rich and the famous and because of the cost effectiveness and easy availability, an increasing number of people are heading towards this science to improve their self-esteem and help their looks. Some of the most common procedures carried out in this field of science include:

Botox: These are available in the form of injections and are helpful in recreating the youthful appearance of the person’s face. It helps in reducing the expression lines surrounding the eyes, lips, forehead and cheeks and correcting the facial scars, if any.

Gum reshaping: This is a cosmetic procedure applied on those who think that they show too much of their gums while smiling. Their excess gums are trimmed through laser, giving permanent and immediate results.

Bonding: This involves coating of the teeth in special composite agents to restore the color and shape of the teeth.

Lumineers: These are ultra-thin veneers that cover the gaps between the teeth to improve their looks.

Cerec: This is a high technological alternative to temporary fittings and dental moulds that are used for making impressions of a person’s teeth. A high-tech camera is used for sending 3D images of the person’s teeth to a milling machine that produces a new veneer or crown from the ceramic block.

Bridges: These are widely used for replacing the missing teeth. A bridge is made up of one teeth and caps for two supporting teeth. It is cemented in its desired place and last for up to several years.

Dentures: These are removable teeth for those who have lost all or some of their teeth. They are very comfortable to wear and look exactly like the natural teeth.

Crowns: These are used to strengthen the broken or damaged teeth so that their function can be preserved. They may also be called as caps as they sit on the existing tooth.

Dental implantation: These are artificial replacements for a tooth’s root part which has succumbed to decay or trauma. These implants are anchored into pre-drilled sockets in the jaw bone for supporting the denture, bridge or crown. Usually, the implants are made up of titanium to provide a stronger support to the teeth.

Invisalign braces: These are braces made up of clear plastic used for strengthening teeth. These braces are molded for exact fits and are needed to be worn for 22 hours in a day for at least 6 to 18 months.

Veneers: They are a very popular choice among those who are damaged, stained or crooked teeth. Wafer thin shell made up of porcelain, composite bonding agent or ceramic are cemented over the tooth’s top, thus giving a perfectly white appearance to the teeth.

Teeth whitening: This is a process in which stains are removed from the teeth of the person and they are bleached so that their color is further enhanced. Home whitening kits are also available in the market with which the users can whiten their teeth on their own.
